NI YOUNG ECONOMIST OF THE YEAR 2016 COMPETITION

Congratulations to our outstanding winners and to all students who participated.

First Place was awarded to Ceallagh Waters and Michelle Brown (Sacred Heart Grammar School) for their project on redesigning health and social care under fiscal constraint, praised by judges for its strong economic analysis and evidence-based recommendations.

Second Place went to a team from Shimna Integrated College — Daniel Cutler, Tadhg Kennedy, Ben McNerlin, Matthew Turley and Rory Smith — for their balanced and well-argued evaluation of public service reform without increased taxation.

Third Place was awarded to Justin Sheridan (Abbey Christian Brothers’ Grammar School) for his insightful analysis of Northern Ireland’s productivity gap and sustainable growth strategies.

All prize-winning students received trophies, gift cards and a two-day work experience placement with First Derivative, linking classroom economics with real-world industry practice.
